ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਜੀਵਿਤ ਕਰ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਨੀਪੈਗ: ਉਪਰਲੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ 20ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੱਚੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਸਦੀ ਦਾ ਆਰਕੀਟੈਕਚਰ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਭਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਖਿੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਪੋਸ਼ਾਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਚਾਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ।

ਇਹ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ Sikhs in Canada (ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖ) ਹੈ, ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਟੋਗ੍ਰਾਫਰ ਫਿਲਿਪ ਟਿਮ ਵੱਲੋਂ 1908 ਵਿਚ ਖਿੱਚੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਆ ਗਏ। ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅਟੁੱਟ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਜ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਗਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜੀਆਂ ਵਸਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਅਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੀ ਹਨ।

Community | Resilience | Chardi Kalla⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The story of Sikh Heritage Manitoba is a continuation of the legacy of early Sikh pioneers who shaped Canada. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The original image that served as the inspiration for the recreation of the historic moment in time was captured by Phillip Timms in Vancouver at the intersection of Granville and Hastings Street in 1908. This image became one of the most iconic photographs chronicling the journey of Sikh pioneers at a time which was rather difficult for the men and women of the community. Yet these men radiated a resilience and what we in the Sikh faith refer to as ‘Chardi Kalla’- eternal optimism in the face of all adversity.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We at Sikh Heritage Manitoba wanted to pay homage to the early pioneers in a Manitoban context capturing contemporary experiences of Sikh stories and acknowledge the pioneers who chose Canada as their home today as well. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The re-imagination of this photograph from a 21st century perspective while showing a gender equality stance was of paramount importance to Sikh Heritage Manitoba. This year also marks the 100th anniversary for Sikh women and children being allowed to come to Canada, after they were initially barred in the early 1900s. Women were present in spirit if not physically present in this context and they were equally central to the Canadian Sikh story.⁣⁣ ⁣ The Government of Manitoba has officially proclaimed april 2019 as Sikh Heritage Month here in Manitoba, but with the community’s support we can have Bill-228 passed and have Sikh Heritage Month legislated permanently for every April to come - please reach out to your local MLA’s and request their support to pass such a historic bill for the Sikh community here in Manitoba.⁣ ⁣⁣ Creative direction: @96tribal ⁣⁣ Photography: @thesandeep29

ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਅਤੇ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵਧ ਕੇ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਾਣ, ਮਾਣ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ‘ਤੇ, ਮਾਣ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੌਮ ‘ਤੇ। ਇਸੇ ਮਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਨੀਪੈਗ, ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ 100 ਸਾਲ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਜੀਵਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈਰੀਟੇਜ ਮੈਨੀਟੋਬਾ ਦੀ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਇਮਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਇਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਦੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ।

20ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਦਰਸਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਾਲ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਨਸਲੀ ਭੇਦਭਾਵ ਜ਼ੋਰਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਸੀ, ਇਸੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਮਤਾ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰੀਨ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਉਸ ਵੇਲ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਆਤਮ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਰੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਭਰੇ ਕਦਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਫੈਸ਼ਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਲਿਬਾਸ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਹਨ।

ਇਮਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਜੀਵਿਤ ਕਰ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਹੈ। -37 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਠੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੱਚੀ ਗਈ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਨਵੀਂ ਪੈੜ ਵੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। 1918 ਤੱਕ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਦਾ ਮੈਨੀਟੋਬਾ ਲੈਜੀਸਲੇਚਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈਰੀਟੇਜ ਮੰਥ ਦੇ ਚੱਲਦਿਆਂ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
